Stockton Stingrays Player Bios

#3 DAVID “Lukas” VIGIL
5’10”, 205 lbs.
Team Captain
Offensive MVP, ‘06 World Series
“My name is David Lukas Vigil, Captain of the Stingrays! In the ‘07 regular season, i was 12 for 35 with a 0.343 avg. I was the offensive MVP in the ‘06 World Series in Cleveland, Ohio! I was 8 for 24 and had a batting avg. of 0.308! I am married with two boys and have two grandchildren. With our new manager, Gene Coufall, and the new defense along with all of the other changes in the offense, we all can look forward to a successful season! “

#7 JENNIFER “Flipper” BOYLAN
Co-Captain
“I’m proud to be co-captain of such a great team! Beep baseball and the Stingrays mean the world to me. I love sharing my enthusiasm for the sport with anyone who will listen. When I’m not chasing my two kids around, there’s nothing I like better than chasing down a line drive. My nickname comes from the crazy way I flip over the base at full speed. I had a defensive high of 7 put outs in the ‘07 World Series and hope to better that this season. I’m increasing my workouts, so watch for more runs on the board this year!”

#2 ERIC “Sports Judge” SCHOLZ
“My name is Eric Scholz, one of the original players on the Stockton Stingrays beep baseball team. I had always dreamed of playing organized sports, and though I consider myself a better student of the game than a player, just playing this game is a dream come true. My teammates call me “sports judge” because I am very analytical, whether it be about other sports, other athletes, other subjects, or even my own performance on the beep ball field. Though I scored a career high in runs, reaching double figures for the first time, I pride myself on my defense.”

#25 HUSANI “Tsunami” HILL
2007 Offensive & Defensive MVP
“It feels real good to be the World Series MVP in both the offensive and defensive categories! I was 24 for 31 with a 0.775 batting avg. for the regular season!
In the World Series, i was 11 for 28, with a 0.393 batting avg… On defense i had 24 put outs. Next year i hope we can take the whole thing!”

#6 ROBERT “Cruz Missile” CRUZ
5’3”, 175 lbs.
“My batting average for the 07 regular season was 0.192, 5 for 26. I was a very important part of our victory against the Tyler Tigers of Texas in the ‘06 World Series. I have been with the Stockton stingrays since their inception in 2003. I am very excited about the NBBA World Series coming to Stockton in the summer of ‘09. I hope to double my out put this season!”

#4 DAVID "Giant Slayer" VALDEZ
5’9”, 180 lbs.
0.300 avg in 2007
“My name is David Valdez. I have been with the Stockton Stingrays since the team was formed. My contribution to the team as a left-handed batter is unique. I once played a similar game to beep baseball, but tees were used and the defense was different. The beepball I play now is more challenging, but also fun.”

#8 “Hurricane” RITA OVERSTREET
2005 Offensive MVP
“I’m Rita Overstreet, one of the original Stingrays with the team since 2003. I served as Team Captain in 2005-06. My team calls me “Hurricane Rita” because they hear the wind when I swing. I look forward to Stockton hosting the World Series in ‘09 and predict we’ll take the whole thing!”

#1 SEAN "Bulldog" RYAN
5’9”, 172 lbs.
Sight Status: Totally Blind
Rookie Year: 2007
0.371 batting avg for 2007
“Being athletic all my life, I was thrilled at the idea of blind accessible sports, especially baseball. With Beep Ball, I can still keep active. I may be the rookie, but I got the numbers."

#13  MEGAN WINFIELD
Rookie Year: 2008.  “This is my first season playing beep baseball.  I plan on learning as much as I can about the sport.  I am really excited I have found a sport that I can participate in.  I enjoy meeting new people and I feel I will accomplish that by playing with the Stockton Stingrays.  I am extremely excited about going to the World Series in Houston, Texas this season.  I plan to have a lot of fun this season!”
